The WhiteWay to Expand! Get involved today!
Justin Atterbury a board member of The Columbia Valley Chamber of Commerce and chair of the Invermere Business Committee is spearheading a great new initiative, EXPAND THE WHITEWAY! The goal is to scoop the Guinnes World Record from Ottawa’s Rideau Canal! Working in partnership with the Nordic Ski Club who originally created the WhiteWay 3 years ago to provide a place for their members to ski on Lake Windermere. The ice surface is cleared each year as soon as the lake is frozen to build 15 kilometers of groomed tracks and the cleared 15 km is available for skaters. The vision is to double the width of the cleared surface and create up to 12 hockey rinks and maintain them during the season. Justin, also a newly elected councillor with the District of Invermere, has been able to spark great interest amongst the local stakeholders and the project has taken on a life of its own! But to maintain such a service the WhiteWay Committee needs funds to purchase the equipment and hire the staff to maintain the ice surface for a period of at least 12 weeks. There are a couple of ways to get involved.
- Be a Founder – anyone donating over $500 qualifies as a Founder and their name will be posted on a board at Kinsmen beach in perpetuity.
- Buy meters of the WhiteWay – you can purchase meters of the WhiteWay for $2/meter and receive a certificate. The certificate will be a great keepsake and a perfect gift for someone who has everything or just as that extra little stocking stuffer. Certificates are on sale at: Artym Gallery, Be Gifted, Rocky River Grill, Summit Footwear and the Columbia Valley Chamber of Commerce. watch for this list to grow
For mor information about how to get involved or how to donate please contact the Columbia Valley Chamber of Commerce at info@cvchamber.ca or call us at 250.342.2844
