Premier Clark wins Westside-Kelowna by-election
This week, Premier Christy Clark won the by-election in riding of Westside-Kelowna, with over 60 per cent of the popular vote.

Ben Stewart, the former MLA for the riding, stepped aside to allow the Premier to fill the vacant seat.

BC NDP election review panel to be announced
The BC NDP will soon announce five individuals who will be tasked with reviewing why the party failed to win the provincial election on May 14. Party leader Adrian Dix called the review shortly after the BC Liberals won their fourth consecutive majority this spring.

The individuals selected to review the party’s performance will have the mandate to:

  • evaluate the 2013 campaign with a view to determine the reasons for the loss including a review and assessment of the strategies and tactics of the BC NDP 2013 campaign;
  • identify the successes that should be built upon;
  • recommend steps to make improvements and prepare a winning strategy in 2017; and
  • review and assess the BC NDP’s broader relationship with the voters of British Columbia including an examination the BC NDP’s base of support compared to the changing demographics of the population and the impact of vote splitting with other parties.

The reviewers will include representatives from labour, more than one woman and, ideally someone from outside of the province, according to a statement from the party.
